We're taking a jaunt through the American South on the blog today, with a quartet of playlists dedicated to one of the most musically fertile regions in the whole world. Check 'em out, y'all.

ZBB's Southern Ground Artist Favorites

Here is the very playlist that got us thinking about various other mixtapes (as seen below) we've received dedicated to the sounds of the South. Austin Stephens is asking you to check out the new album by Zac Brown Band, Uncaged, as well various other hits from Brown's label, Southern Ground, all available here.

Southern Fried Rock 'n' Soul

How about this for a playlist description:"Rockin' on dirt roads, cooler of suds, a couple buds and your best cane pole." Intrigued? We were. And Jody McGreevy's playlist didn't disappoint. Featured here: everyone from the Charlie Daniels Band and Kentucky Headhunters, to Dobie Gray and Etta James.

Southern Rock Americana

"Southern rock." says Turbolover, "is a subgenre of rock music, and genre of Americana." This classic playlist features the cream of that genre, tracks from The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Brownsville Station, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Whiskeytown and more.

Indie Children of Southern Traditions

Last but certainly not least, an ever-growing, one-track-per-artist playlist lovingly curated to showcase contemporary indie bands that have reached deep into the American South for inspiration. There's over 100 tracks – that's more than 12 hours of music – here. Great mixtape.

Long live the mixtape!
