As an ex-Bassist, strong and distinctive bass lines always catch my attention. Here's a collection that I hope you like as much as I do!
Stuff you might like to know.....
Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side has twin interlocking bass lines played by Herbie Flowers on double-bass and overdubbed fretless bass guitar.
Curtis Mayfield's Pusherman is among The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. Joseph Lucky Scott plays the bass on this song that was originally a soundtrack to a film called 'Super Fly'.
The French Duo Daft Punk got to #1 in the dance charts with 'Around the World'. The key hook is a steady bassline and a vocoder-processed voice singing "around the world" in continuous chains. The phrase occurs 144 times in the album version and 80 times here in the radio edit. Well I like it anyway!
English Punk Band The Clash's Paul Simmons wrote, sung and played bass on 'The Guns of Brixton'. Fatboy Slim had a #1 with 'Dub be Good to Me' which had sampled the bassline from this song.
